List of The Great Race pre-release and unused content

This is a list of pre-release and unused content in The Great Race (video game).

Unused Characters

Philip as a playable character

At one stage during development, DonaldDouglasandOliver11 was planning to make Philip a playable character in the game, but as he doesn't compete in any of the competitions. He was made a non-playable character in the final game, although, it is likely that he would be playable during the "Railway Tour" mode.

Ryan

As seen in the E3 demo, Ryan was going to be a background character when the player goes onto the map during "Railway Tour", but he was cut out in the final release for unknown reasons, although, it is likely that DonaldDouglasandOliver11 wanted to just add characters that participated in The Great Railway Show and also likely that he wanted to add characters that made a major role in the actual movie.

Possible non-existent characters

Spencer, Hiro and Rajiv were not seen in any E3 screenshots, demos or trailers, meaning that they weren't originally going to be playable characters in the game. Stephen and The Great Railway Show Diesels were also not seen in any screenshots, demos or trailers either meaning that they weren't going to appear in the game either, however, those characters appear in the game in the final release.

Early Icons

Speed Button

The icon for the button that makes the player go faster during a competition was originally meant to be a rounded square icon with a picture of Thomas whited out on it, but in the final, the icon was changed to a green circle with a small black outlined circle in the middle.

"YOU LOST THE RACE" text

If the player lost a race in either the Strength, Shunting and Great Race competitions, a screen with the text saying "YOU LOST THE RACE" would appear. But in the final, The Narrator (Mark Moraghan) says to the player that they've lost the race.

Unused data

In the E3 2016 demo, Vinnie was shown participating in the Great Race instead of the Strength Competition, this was likely an error made by DonaldDouglasandOliver11 and also, Spencer is not seen participating in the race at all, meaning that Spencer wasn't originally going to be a playable character in the game.

However, this was fixed in the final version, as Vinnie is in the Strength Competition like in the original movie and Spencer is in the Great Race.
